This is the time of year for outdoor activity and too much sun exposure. Many of us religiously apply our sunblock and other times we get lost in the moment and forget to reapply and that is when a sunburn happens. There are several ways to treat a sunburn.
!. Cool The Burn. Cool the burn with cold compresses and/or cold shower or bath. A cold bath with colloidal oatmeal helps sooth and calm.
Moisturizing with a light lotion while skin is damp. Try to avoid heavy balms, oils or petroleum. This can trap the heat and make the burn worse. Aloe Vera with a few drops of Lavender and Peppermint essential oil applied on the skin before you moisturize is a favorite home remedy of mine.
3. Decrease The Inflammation.
Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen or naproxin as directed. Arnica is a good holistic choice if you prefer to stay away from NSAIDs.
Remember to drink plenty of fluids to help with dehydration.
These remedies are for mild sunburns and is not to be replaced with medical advice. Always check with your doctor before trying any of these remedies.
